Earth Daughters supported an Indigenous rural-serving school in Santa Catarina, Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca by funding new classroom furniture, providing desks and chairs for students who had previously been sitting and learning on the floor. This lack of basic resources created barriers to comfort, concentration, and full participation in the classroom.
By equipping the school with proper furniture, the initiative helped create a more accessible and dignified learning environment where students can engage more fully in their education. Having a dedicated space to sit, write, and collaborate not only improves the quality of learning but also supports students’ confidence, focus, and overall well-being. This project highlights the importance of investing in foundational educational resources, particularly in underserved Indigenous communities where schools often face limited funding and infrastructure challenges. Small but meaningful improvements, like desks and chairs, can have a lasting impact on daily learning experiences and academic success. Grounded in collaboration with local leaders and educators, this effort reflects a commitment to equitable education and community-centered support. By addressing immediate needs while respecting the community’s priorities, the project contributes to creating empowering spaces where children can learn, grow, and thrive with dignity.
